With Halloween fast approaching, for whatever reason, I started thinking about the Cool Ghoul. Do you remember him?
The Ghoul, played by Dick Von Hoene, hosted “Scream-In” on Saturday nights on WXIX, Channel 19, back in the early 70’s. To read more about the show click here.
I was in high school then and when I wasn’t out with my buddy John at the drive-in trying to pick up girls, I would usually be home watching the Ghoul’s bits between the horror movies he showed.
I went to You Tube and found some clips. Apparently, a special was put together recently on the Cool Ghoul’s career. Here’s part one.
The rest of the remaining clips can be found on You Tube.
I watched all the clips and I’m a bit sorry I did. Moving ahead close to 40 years, the Ghoul seems pretty camp, corny and not all that funny to me now. Back when I was 16 or 17 years old—what was I thinking?
It’s sad in a way. Really, one can never go back. Just like with Jerry Lewis, I’ve outgrown the Cool Ghoul.
