“American Idol” is back on the air for another season. I watched a few clips from it yesterday morning and immediately felt bored. Maybe that will change as the season moves forward..
I started thinking about the winners over the years and could only recall a few that went on to have success. Kelly Clarkson found it and so did Carrie Underwood—but what about the rest of them?
Whatever became of Taylor Hicks? When was the last time you bought an album by David Cook or could even find one? Have you ever gone to a Lee Dewyze concert? Do you really think last year’s winner, Scotty—and I’ve already forgotten his last name—will have any hit records?
Seems to me most of these winners usually turn out to be losers. Many voters get it wrong most of the time.
Your thoughts?

After the auditions my interest drys up. I could never tell you who wins because I don’t care.
No reason to watch it with Simon gone.
These “idols” have clay feet. No truly original, creative musicians have ever come from shows like this. Most are no better than slightly talented karaoke singers. Even Clarkson and Underwood have only succeeded in singing watered-down rock music that passes for country. Audiences devoted to watching/voting on shows such as this one have nothing better to do.
A bit difficult to improve on Tuck’s statement. Well said.
Me me it’s a way to kill an hour but that’s even becoming dull. I stopped watching it through the middle of last season and I think I lost interest because the show has become too nice. Where’s Simon where you need him? Oh yea, X factor.
Looking at JLow is the highpoint of my week.
American Idol is crap TV. The kids on this thing have no soul and are looking for a short cut to star land and that’s why most don’t make it. That’s why once they win you never hear from them again. You got to come up through the ranks and pay your dues. Why the hell is Steven Tyler taking part in this shit? For money? He’s a sell out and should be ashame of himself.
With shity weather in the winter, it is a way to pass the time. Seldom do I ever get interested in any singer. I have never bought an album by any American Idol winner. When the weather gets better, I move on. Maybe that explains why most of us don’t care when the show is over
American Ido is too sugar coated these days and the talent sucks even more. At least X factor has some bit to it.
Granted, hard to believe, but Taylor Hicks has a big hit record out.. I hate it but it’s true.
like this so much
