To tell the truth, I haven’t counted the number of days I’ve heard fireworks going off in my neighborhood after the sun goes down here in Covington, Kentucky. It’s been going on for way over a week. None of this bugs me as it was the same thing when I was living in Westwood over in Cincinnati last year. People like fireworks. It’s festive. Why limit it to the Fourth of July or in this area to Labor Day? Have fun; just don’t set yourself on fire.
As for today, I don’t have a busy holiday planned which is just the way I like it. Some friends invited me over for a cookout this afternoon, but they are nondrinkers, and I’m a drinker. Why put myself through that kind of torture?
I’m assuming it will be in the upper 90’s again today, so I’ll be doing a little cooking—I’m thinking some pasta—this morning and warm it up in the microwave later for dinner. I’ve made a habit of doing this during these hot summer days.
Tonight, I’ll probably watch a movie. On my computer, I’ve got the Woody Allen movie “Midnight in Paris.” I’ve been saving it.
I’m sure I’ll hear fireworks tonight and probably every night for at least the rest of the week. The only fire I’ll really be seeing is from some candles I have which will provide a nice atmosphere for dinner later. That’s festive enough for me.
