On the last day of 2008, I made a new friend. If you’re interested in reading more about Julie Rizzitelli, click here to get to the current Living Out Loud column in CityBeat.
Julie and I hung out for a little bit this past Tuesday night. New friends can open your eyes to new things – like going to a wine tasting.
City Cellars at 908 Race Street has a large selection of wines to purchase – good stuff you’re not going to find in your grocery store. Every Tuesday between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., they have a wine tasting.
For a low price, you get to sample a variety of wines, get educated on what you’re drinking and listen to some good live music.
Over wine, cheese, crackers and even a little pizza, I got to know my new friend a little bit more and met some other interesting people. Even Jim Tarbell was hanging out. The atmosphere was just right – very warm and friendly.
Julie sampled a few of the wines, but I didn’t. I’m not going to kid you – I know very little about wine, just know what I like. I was enjoying the dry white wine I was drinking – Pinot Grigio Venezie – and stuck with that.
When the evening was over, Julie purchased a bottle of wine for herself. To my surprise, she also got me a bottle of the wine I was enjoying. Sweet Julie is a wonderful new friend.
For those of you who think I’m Mr. Negative when it comes to Cincinnati – hey! I found something positive here – something different and something I like right here in Cincinnati.
This past Tuesday was a lot of fun at City Cellars. I recommend it highly. I’ll be heading back soon.
