They won’t be wearing the standard white shirt that clearly identifies them as security officers. They’ll be wearing golf shirts.
Speaking under conditions of anonymity, as he or she is not an official spokesperson for the library, my source tells me this is an effort to “blend in” with visitors to the downtown library. This source tells me security people have already turned in their sizes for the golf shirts.
In a related matter, Hamilton County Deputies who regularly patrol the downtown library will continue to do so, but not so much at the tech center located on the second floor. Deputies will only be summoned to the tech center on an “as needed” basis.
A spokesperson for the downtown Cincinnati public library could not immediately be reached for comment.
I find it especially odd that security for the tech center will become less. Just last month, a 26-year-old woman was attacked at that center. Now you’re going to have less security?
In regards to the attack on the woman, a manager at the library stated it was an “isolated incident.” Really? I’ve written about the problems at the tech center before.
My source tells me that most employees at the downtown library are not happy about the changes that are coming. As a visitor, I’m not either.
I go to the downtown library quite often and I’m thankful that we have it. It’s a place of great diversity which can be a good thing, but sometimes that diversity gets out of hand.
I’ve lost track of the number of arrests I’ve witnessed there. I’m grateful those security officers and deputies were around to respond and keep the rest of us safe. Wearing golf shirts and lessening security at the tech enter doesn’t make me feel that secure.
In my view, these changes don’t make any sense at all. Your thoughts?
