Goessling Family Markets has purchased the building where Keller’s operated for years and plans on a 1.5 million dollar renovation of the store which will open in September. Click here to get more information.
I lived in Clifton’s Gaslight District for years and going to Keller’s IGA was almost a daily routine for me. Without a doubt, food prices were high there, but I could walk to it, they had just about everything I needed and I came to know most of the staff. And who can forget those paper grocery bags with the handles. They were perfect for those of us who walked home from there.
Over the years, I could tell that they weren’t exactly profitable—a floor that was falling apart and so much of the lighting was out—still Keller’s was a habit and when it closed, I was sad about it.
Now, Clifton will have a new grocery in that location on Ludlow. Here’s a suggestion to the Goessling Family. . . bring back those paper bags with the handles.
