Last weekend, I went out to dinner with some friends to the Backstage Café in Covington. Waling in, the place was pretty packed with guys yelling and screaming. It was almost so loud; we were hesitating to go in. What the hell was all the fuss?
As we ordered our food, I asked the waiter what was going on. He said the guys were all excited about their fantasy football league.
I kind of know what this is, but not well enough to explain it. I’m thinking I probably don’t have to. Most people are smarter than me when it comes to sports and the games that go with them.
Fantasy football has to be a game, you know, not real life. I started looking down my nose. Those guys need to deal in reality.
Our food came and we ate that food and I had a good conversation with my friends despite all the noise. The Backstage Café has great food and my friends and I agreed we should come back.
Walking out of the place, the café was still loud. My friend Jim took out his cell phone and caught it on video. Here’s a few seconds of it.
That’s me in the yellow shirt walking like a turtle. I tend to walk that way when I have a few drinks in me.
Days later, I’m still thinking about fantasy football and I’m thinking I have no right to look down my nose at people who enjoy it.
Sometimes we need to live in a fantasy world. I know I do, it just doesn’t happen to be football. We need a fantasy to help deal with reality. That’s what I’m thinking now.
I wonder if it’s too late to sign up for that fantasy football league. I can always learn a new kind of fantasy.
