I have some friends stopping by later and we’ll probably go out for a late lunch. I usually let them decide where they want to eat but today, I may suggest a place.
Maybe we’ll go to the Anchor Grill at 438 Pike Street here in Covington. It’s been a few months since I’ve been there.
Have you ever been the Anchor Grill? Some would say it’s horrible. Others would say it’s an acquired taste. All I say is you like good diner food at a cheap price; this is where you should be going.
The video up above gives you an idea as to what the Anchor Grill is like. If you’re even more curious about it, you can read my CityBeat column that I wrote back in May of last year.
Yep, I think I’ll suggest the Anchor Grill to my friends. If they don’t like that idea, we can always go to Covington Chili. That’s a cut above. Well, maybe not.

I think you have given me a good idea for breakfast 🙂
Great place to cure a hangover and then you swear you will never go back but then you get your next hangover.
How could I ever forget that column you wrote about the Anchor Grill in City Beat? I read it and decided to give it a try. The cheeseburger was burnt and so were the onion rings I ordered and the service was unfriendly with some cranky old waitress. You meant well, but this is a place for drunk people to eat and I’m ever drunk.
The Anchor is a good late-night cheap option, especially after 2:30-3:00 a.m. Along with cheap, but mediocre, vittles, you get to observe the characters, including regulars, a definite plus for a writer. “We may doze, but never close.”
Tuck is right. Anchor Grill is another option for you to observe Covington characters. Get off that damn bus bench in front of Walgreens 🙂
I never understand the love for this place. Guess I never get drunk enough.
Compared to Awful Waffle Houseat 1 AM, I will choose Anchor Grill.
At least at Anchor Grill you don’t have to watch them screw up your food.
Yep. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.
