Back when I went to school there, Allensville, Indiana consisted of an elementary school and a church. I did a web search looking for a photo of the school but found none. I did find this one of the church. I know it’s still standing. The school was torn down some years ago.
I don’t know if Allensville was considered a town or not—probably not—by the grownups, but us kids back in the 1960’s considered it that. Don’t ask me why—we were just kids.
With kids going back to school now, Yahoo! Voices wanted me to write a column about a teacher who had an impact on my life. That elementary school in Allensville came into my head and so did one teacher: Mrs. Hyde.
She was my teacher in the fifth and sixth grade and to a large degree helped shape my life. To read more about this, just click here.
