From left to right. . .
A 2007 calendar magnet from the Royal Anchor Resort in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. I stayed there for a week while I was starting to write “The Hurricane Café.” Under it is a photo of me and my daughter, taken in the springtime when I was living in Westwood, probably five or six years ago.
Those two CityBeat magnets are holding up a photo from the early 1970’s of my twin brother and I with the Johnson sisters. It was taken in Nashville, Tennessee. I’m down there sitting on the floor with Loretta Johnson. My younger brother was also in the picture but my mother, not great with a camera, cut him out of it.
Then there’s another magnet with a dog standing on a large rock in the middle of the ocean. It came from a CityBeater during a Christmas gift exchange many years ago. Under that is another picture from my Westwood days—me and my son.
That image of a cat was cut out from a greeting card. The cat sort of looks like Phoebe who I had for a long time. She’s been gone for over six years—hard to believe. It’s being held up by a heart shaped magnet from the Bananas. My daughter went there when she was in her early 20’s.
The front of my refrigerator reminds me of an old scrapbook. I’m looking at some good memories when I open its door.
