I have formed a new habit. After having my normal two cups of coffee in the morning, I’ll now have some apple juice to go along with whatever I’m having for breakfast. Sometimes that’s cereal, sometimes its eggs or sometimes something else. I’m flexible when it comes to breakfast.
I’m not flexible when it comes to what I drink my apple juice in. I always use my “Late Show with David Letterman” coffee mug. Always. My son got this for me during a trip to New York City in May. No coffee has ever been in that coffee mug. It’s my apple juice mug.
I’m 60 years old and while I know I’m not super old—not yet—I recognize the fact that I am getting a bit old and funny—like having that Letterman mug allocated to apple juice only. I really don’t care. I like the routine and I’m sticking with it.
When my son was in New York City last May, he also got me a “Late Show with David Letterman” t-shirt. Now if I was truly getting old and funny, I would have to also wear that t-shirt while drinking my apple juice.
I don’t. Not yet. That probably starts next week.
