I’m pretty sure this has nothing to do with getting older. I’ve had trouble remembering to turn coffeemakers off for decades. However, for the past year or so, I’ve developed a ritual to help remind myself to do it.
After I pour my last cup of coffee, I click that button to the right and watch that green light go off on my coffeemaker. Then I say out loud, “Off.”
I then go to the light switch on my kitchen wall, move the switch downward to the off position and say out loud, “Off.”
“Off. . .off.” The two offs come within seconds of one another and I make a mental note of the two offs said.
Later, if I can only remember saying “Off” once, a step has been missed and I’ll go back to see what off I forgot.
If I remember saying “Off” three times, then I’ve really screwed something up. With three offs, I do just blame it on getting older.
