Jimmy Fallon took over “The Tonight show” this week and that’s all well and good and his first comedian guest was Jerry Seinfeld and that’s pretty damn smart. Jerry is always funny. I’m a Seinfeld fan—you all know that.
I really like the standup Jerry’s doing in the clip but I especially like the last two minutes when he’s talking about The Post Office and the problems they’re having. Really, is there any part of what he’s saying that isn’t true?
When CityBeat moved to 811 Race Street in Downtown Cincinnati back in 2003, we got ourselves a new mailman. His name was (and is) Bob and he was quite a character as well as a hell of a nice guy.
That’s Bob in the photo wearing the postal uniform. I’m the other person.
Note to the post office: Bob only sat there long enough to have this picture taken. It’s not like he was sitting around for hours or anything. Sometimes postal workers need to sit down too.
Outside of Bob being a good mailman, he was a pretty good writer. He even wrote a CityBeat, Living Out Loud column for me once about what it’s like delivering mail. This was December, 2003. Hard to believe that was almost ten years ago now—hard to believe that column has been around that long.
His mail route changed a few years after the picture was taken and it’s been too long time since I’ve seen him. Bob, I hope you’re doing well.
I’ll be back here on Wednesday.
(I can’t remember who took the picture, but it had to be a CityBeater)
Sorry for not updating today – had some computer problems which are now resolved. We’ll be back tomorrow (Thursday) and we’ll continue on through Saturday – something I don’t normally do to make up for losing today. See, we’re all better now 🙂
