Lately, I’ve been writing about stuff no longer in my life. A few weeks ago on this blog, I wrote about things I no longer do and last week in my CityBeat column, I wrote about how I no longer drive. Here’s something else that I’m going to leave in my past.
I’m no longer going to go to a bar in downtown Cincinnati or Northern Kentucky or anywhere else for that matter and then take a bus back home. While I never stay out that late and never leave a bar drunk, sometimes I do feel a bit out of it and that bus can never get me back home quick enough.
Also drinking in bars means having to use the restroom. You know, drinking sometimes can make you “go” a lot. While I can try and plan it out, use the restroom before leaving the bar, things don’t always go according to plan.
I don’t think there’s a worse feeling than being on a bus, realizing that you have to take a piss and knowing that the damn bus isn’t anywhere near where you live. The bus driver is stopping at almost every stop, the bus is crowded and more than once my main objective has been to reach home without wetting my pants.
No more. If I’m out and friends can’t take me home, I’ll take a taxi. If I know friends aren’t going to be around, I won’t go out at all. I’ll drink at home.
