I found myself in downtown Cincinnati one afternoon last week. I was running low on cash, so I went to an ATM close to Fountain Square.
I put in my card, then entered my pin name. After that, I expected to get the menu asking me if I wanted to make a deposit, a withdrawal—you know the drill.
That’s not what I got. Instead, I got a screen asking me if I wanted to purchase stamps.
What the hell? No, I didn’t want to purchase stamps and I had to click on a button telling the money machine that I didn’t want to purchase stamps. What’s wrong with this picture?
We gotta do something about this. Before you know it, ATMs will be asking us what kind of candy bar we want or will give us an option to purchase cans of Coke, 7UP or Mountain Dew that will be charged to our debit card..
Let ATMs be ATMs. We don’t need all purpose vending machines operated by a bank.
