In October, in my column in CityBeat, I wrote about Rituals, Routines and Ruts. Actually, I have only one ritual in my life and that’s going out on my balcony in the mornings with my cup of coffee and listening to the birds sing.
Now that winter’s here, I’ve had to adjust this ritual a bit. I mean, listening to crows “sing” in the morning isn’t exactly my cup of tea or coffee or whatever. For the winter months, I’ve found a new ritual.
Where I live in Westwood, there’s a lake nearby. As the sun starts to go down in the evening, I watch a flock of geese fly overhead, I’m guessing, to get to that lake.
They look really beautiful flying in the air and I love their honking noise. Somehow I find it peaceful.
I look forward to spring, but for now, watching those geese fly over makes those dark winter evenings a little brighter.
